neptune, betrayal and Ariadne
“I do not know what to do/two states of mind in me,” sings the ancient Greek poet Sappho. These lines could as well be about Neptune, whose themes belong to a watery realm where contradictions undulate.
The myth of Ariadne helps us deepen our understanding of this planet’s archetypal pattern, and shed light on the pain of Neptunian betrayal, the other face of trust, to a beautiful development of consciousness.
Hillman and the Archetypal Psyche
James Hillman’s writings provide an invaluable foundation for understanding the bridge between psychology and astrology. Yet Hillman’s theoretical frame and mythopoetic perspective are rarely mentioned in astrological circles, despite the rich opportunity for cross-fertilization his work offers.
This presentation explores these fertile possibilities by introducing the four modes of imagining in Hillman’s groundbreaking opus Re-Visioning Psychology (1974) and their significance in an archetypal psychological approach to astrology.
Recorded at the United Astrology Conference 2018
elemental ruminations
Astrology and alchemy are cosmologies, and where astrology provides a heavenly view of the imaginal cosmos of the soul, alchemy presents us with a micro-cosmos. Like astrology, it connects us to the gods, only in a very earth focused, substantive way. As the art of elemental transformation, alchemy is rooted in the natural world.
Meditating on the elements as psychological qualities helps deepen our understanding of these symbols in our charts and lives.
